The call of God is sometimes difficult to hear. Once discerned, the call of God is difficult to avoid.
Tess’s writing 08·20·2005 Haiti. Several weeks ago I met a Christian Haitian girl named Linda. She and I have become friends and are going to be meeting together to help each other with language. She speaks a little English and needs help with her pronunciation and I need help learning the Creole language! Yesterday, after she came to my home and met all of my family, I went to her house. Linda lives in a small house and when we arrived there was no electricity. Linda asked me to sit while she found a candle and her parents. I met her mother, a plump woman who I could see faintly in the light of the single candle. Linda said that her father was mad at one of his grandsons and that she couldn’t find him at the, moment. After her mother left the room Linda took a piece of paper and wrote these words in English: I am in a poor home. Then, she went to look for her dad again. She found him and introduced me to him. In the weak light he looked like a hard working man and his hand felt very callused as we shook hands. As we left the little house Linda apologized for everything…. especially her dad. I think she felt embarrassed for her little home and that I knew her dad had been upset. Please pray. God has given me this opportunity to be friends with Linda. She is really a sweet happy girl who is ready to flash you one of her beautiful smiles. Please pray for her and her family and also that God, the very best of friends, will help me be a good friend to Linda. We are reminded that our Haitian friends live with so little. But, God provides and He promises to never leave or forsake His Children. While we see that many Haitian people, thought they live in poor surroundings, have great joy, we also see that discouragement is a battle for them. May Haiti be regularly brought before the throne….
