Once again we ask for prayer for our little Brett. He had several good days last week, before waking up with a rash Friday morning. At first it looked like heat rash, but as the morning progressed, we could see that it was intensifying. After talking with a Riley Nurse, we decided it was an allergic reaction to either the seizure med or amoxicillin. His temperature was also back again. We started Tylenol and benydral for the rash. When I awoke around 2am Sat morning to give more Tylenol, his fever was around 105 under the arm. Wow!! It took about 45 minutes to get it down. We administered cool rags all over his body to help in this process. Thankfully he did not have a seizure during this time. Sat am we took him to see a Haitian Doc. He listened to his lungs and said they sounded like a person with asthma. He told us to continue what we were doing. We took a blood test and would get the results later. That afternoon he seemed better until about 4pm. Suddenly he became very restless, coughing a lot and fever again, only this time the Tylenol was not keeping it down. I called a friend who is a nurse and she went with Tess to get the blood work. While they were gone, Brett turned for the worse. While Madam Lulu was praying for him, he quit breathing. We took him to the couch and I did CPR. He was turning blue and his jaw was locking down. I really thought the Lord was calling him home. With in a minute he started breathing again, very restless now and obviously having a hard time breathing. Diane and Tess arrived back and we loaded him up in the Toyota and headed to the clinic/hospital. They started oxygen and began shots of antibiotics again. We also started shots of steroids for the rash. Jan and Tess stayed with him overnight. He did not sleep the best but definitely was feeling better. By 10am the next morning, I could see a real change in the rash. It appeared like we were over the hump on that at least. We stayed with him at the hospital until 6pm, when he rec'd his 3rd round of shots. The hospital staff let us bring the oxygen home with us. Brett had a restless night, not sleeping soundly until around 5:30am. We still had to return the clinic for shots at 6am, but thankfully he went back to sleep again. Right now he is up, and off the oxygen (we are trying to wean him and see how he does with out it.) He is not himself, but we trust he will feel a little better each day. The blood work showed an infection, which we assume is in the lungs. The allergic reaction to the amoxicillan was probably one cause of the difficulty breathing as he was swollen. We will continue on antibiotics until the infection is gone.

It is hard to see the little guy suffer. We are trusting God in all of this, once again reminding ourselves that God has a plan.
The clinic-hospital is on Mebsh property and only a 3-4 minute drive on the 4 wheeler. A new floor was recently added for people needing extended hospital care. It is very nice for 3rd world standards. Brett was the first "white" patient. It was very interesting to observe the culture from this perspective. Several groups came in to pray and sing for the patients. Often, the other people would join the singing. Brett rec'd much attention when new people came visiting. Often there would be 4-5 people standing around his bed. We rec'd visits from several people who all wanted to pray with us for him. We believe in God's plan for putting us there. We won't know until eternity how God is using Brett for his glory. I told many of the people that Brett is handicapped. You could just see the pity in their eyes.

Well, we don't really know what is ahead. Trusting that the antibiotics will kill the infection and Brett can have good health again. God will faithfully lead us on the path that is marked "His Plan". We know this whole situation is under God's direction. Pray that we will have the wisdom to react and do what He wants us to do for Brett. Thanks again...once again....for all the love and prayers for this special boy in God's kingdom.
